Frequently Asked Questions

Planning wedding flowers can feel a little overwhelming at first, especially if you’re not quite sure where to begin. These FAQs are here to answer some of the most common questions about the process, pricing, flowers and how I work.

If there’s anything else you’d like to know that isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at hello@wildlilacflorals.co.uk. I’m always happy to chat through ideas, answer questions and help however I can.

We don’t know anything about flowers, where do we start?

With an initial consultation and a good old browse of Pinterest!

You don’t need to become a flower expert before your wedding, that's my job!

During our initial consultation, all you really need is an idea of the overall feel you'd like for the day and we'll use that as our starting point.

It's also helpful if you have a colour palette in mind and any favourite flowers you'd love to include. Don't worry if you don't know their names, photos are fine.

Pinterest can be a fantastic source of inspiration for styles, colour palettes, bouquet shapes and the overall look you're drawn to. However, it's best to use images as inspiration rather than a checklist. Pinterest isn't mindful of seasonality or budget, and it's becoming increasingly populated with AI-generated flowers and arrangements that don't actually exist in real life.

The most helpful approach is to save images that capture the colours, textures and overall feeling you love. From there, I'll create designs that are achievable and tailored specifically to you and your wedding.

How much should we budget for wedding flowers and do you do packages?

At the moment, I don't offer fixed wedding flower packages. Every wedding I create is completely bespoke, so I prefer to design your flowers around your individual style, priorities and budget rather than fitting you into a one-size-fits-all package.

For the same reason, I don't publish guide prices. No two weddings are the same, and the cost of wedding flowers can vary significantly depending on the season, flower choices, designs, venue requirements and the overall scale of your wedding.

It's also worth bearing in mind that every florist prices differently depending on their experience, style, business model and overheads. While these are my prices and the way I work at Wild Lilac, another florist may quote differently for similar designs.

I know it can be difficult to know what flowers typically cost, so before our consultation it's helpful to have an idea of what you're comfortable spending, or the budget you've allocated for flowers. This allows me to suggest designs and options that make the best use of your budget.

I'm always happy to recommend money-saving alternatives and creative ways to achieve maximum impact without compromising on style.

What is the enquiry and booking process?

Simply complete my enquiry form with as much information as you can about your wedding day. I'll then be in touch as soon as possible to arrange a free, no-obligation consultation where we can get to know each other and discuss your vision for the day.

Following our consultation, I'll create a bespoke proposal and inspiration board tailored to your wedding and send it over for you to review, usually within a few days. This will include itemised pricing, design options and costs for delivery and setup.

If you'd like to proceed, all that's needed is a completed booking form and your booking fee to secure your date.

From there, you're welcome to contact me at any time with questions, ideas or changes and I'll get back in touch a few months before your wedding to review everything and finalise the details.

Your final decisions and remaining balance are due four weeks before your wedding date. After that, you can relax and leave the flowers to me!

Why is our wedding flower proposal only valid for two weeks?

Wedding flower proposals are only valid for two weeks because flower and supply costs can change frequently, sometimes at short notice. Pricing, availability and wholesale costs are influenced by factors such as seasonal demand, weather conditions and wider market fluctuations, so I can only guarantee the quoted price for a limited period.

I also receive enquiries for popular dates throughout the year. While a proposal doesn't reserve your wedding date, I will hold it for two weeks while you make a decision whether to

proceed with the booking. I will always contact you before releasing a date to another couple if you've expressed a genuine interest in booking.

Once the booking deposit is paid, your date is secure and prices are fixed unless major changes are made to the floral style or flower choices.

Do we have to know exactly what flowers and designs we want for our first consultation?

No, there's no expectation for you to have everything figured out.

The first consultation is simply an opportunity for us to get to know each other and discuss your vision for the day.

We'll chat about how you'd like your wedding to feel, any ideas you already have, and your preferences for colours, styles, themes and favourite flowers. From there, I can create a tailored proposal with design suggestions and pricing.

I'll guide you through each element of your wedding flowers, explain the available options and make recommendations where needed, helping you discover what will work best for your style, venue and budget.

Your proposal isn't set in stone, either. Changes, additions and tweaks can be made throughout the planning process, up to four weeks before your wedding, when the remaining balance is due.

Will our wedding flowers be cheaper if we choose seasonal flowers?

Unfortunately, seasonal doesn't always mean cheaper.

However, what seasonal flowers do offer is excellent value in other ways. They're typically fresher, longer-lasting, more abundant and often have larger blooms at their peak. You'll usually have a wider choice of varieties and colours available too.

Although I can never guarantee any specific flower variety, choosing flowers that are naturally in season gives me the best chance of sourcing them. If one supplier is unable to provide a particular bloom, there are often more alternative sources available when it's at its seasonal peak.

Seasonal flowers can also enhance the authentic atmosphere of your wedding, helping your floral design feel naturally connected to the time of year and immersing your guests in the overall feel of your celebration.

Can we choose specific flowers for our designs?

If there are particular flowers that you love and would really like included in your wedding flowers, please let me know. I'll always do my very best to source them for your day.

If a flower is unlikely to be in season at the time of your wedding, I'll advise you of this during the planning process and suggest suitable alternatives that will achieve a similar look and feel.

As flowers are natural products, there can occasionally be factors beyond anyone's control that affect availability. This may be due to weather conditions, supply chain issues, crop failures, or flowers arriving in a condition or colour that doesn't meet my quality standards.

For this reason, all wedding proposals include a note that specific flower varieties and exact shades will never be 100% guaranteed. However, if a substitution is ever necessary, I will always select the closest suitable alternative to stay true to your vision.

Can you show us photos of something similar you’ve done in the past?

Everything I've created will be on my website or social media somewhere, so they're the best places to browse examples of my work.

If you don’t see it here then I haven’t done it before as Wild Lilac. However, I have 20 years of experience, much of which was gained before Wild Lilac was established. Out of respect for previous employers and their clients, I don't share work created for other businesses.

If I tell you I can create a design, it's because I'm confident that I can deliver it. Equally, if something isn't achievable or isn't a style I'm comfortable creating, I'll always be honest and let you know.

Do you have a minimum spend?

No, I don't have a minimum spend requirement. Every wedding is bespoke, and whether you're planning an intimate ceremony or a large celebration, I'll happily create flowers that work for your vision and budget.

That said, as a studio florist, I need to order flowers specifically for each wedding. Some varieties are only available in larger wholesale quantities, so if I can't use any surplus flowers elsewhere, this may need to be factored into your quotation.

I'll always be transparent about costs and will discuss any budget considerations with you before you book.

Can I have a mock-up of my wedding bouquet?

Yes, absolutely. If you'd like a mock-up bouquet ahead of your wedding, this can be arranged.

As the bouquet will still need to be fully designed and made using fresh flowers, mock-ups are charged at full price. Where appropriate, I may use cost-effective substitute flowers to recreate the overall look, shape and colour palette while helping to keep costs sensible.

Please also bear in mind that some flowers are only available in minimum wholesale quantities, so if surplus stems cannot be used elsewhere, this may need to be factored into the cost. I'll always discuss this with you beforehand so everything is clear and transparent.

Do you use floral foam in your designs?

Currently, yes, I do still use floral foam for some designs where it is the most practical or structurally suitable option. However, I always aim to work as sustainably as possible and will aim to use foam-free methods wherever the arrangement allows.

Many arrangements and installations can be created completely foam-free, and if this is something that's particularly important to you and your wedding, I'm very happy to discuss fully sustainable design options.

Do we have to collect and setup the flowers ourselves?

Not at all (unless you want to!). On the morning of your wedding, I will personally deliver your bouquets, buttonholes and other personal flowers to the addresses you provide, whether you're getting ready at your venue or elsewhere.

All venue flowers, centrepieces and larger floral installations will also be delivered and professionally set up by me, with plenty of time before your ceremony begins.

We'll discuss all delivery locations, timings and setup requirements well in advance of the wedding day, so everything runs smoothly and you can focus on enjoying the occasion.

If anything is to be collected/dismantled then I will return to the venue the following day to do this. If there are any flowers left over, I will bundle these up for you to take away or give to guests.

Any delivery, setup or collection costs will be clearly outlined in your initial quotation and reflected in any updated proposals should your plans change.
